Case of 6 bottles.

Finca Losada is a modern winery, in Spain's Bierzo region, featuring primarily wines sourced from old plantings. Located near the village of Pieros on the famous Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

Losada's vineyards are a series of small parcels, farmed with minimum intervention partly in respect to the traditions, but mainly out of respect to the environment, the workers, and the people who enjoy their wines. No chemical herbicides or pesticides are used.

We find Godello-based white wines and Mencia-based red wines are really versatile choices when entertaining around the holidays. Both offer enough weight and character to hold sway at the table, yet not too overpowering to take away from the purpose of the meal - to enjoy time together with family and friends.

This pack (three bottles of white, and three bottles of red) is a great way to experience the classic grapes of Bierzo - in the hands of an exciting team focussed on producing only the best wines possible. Wines that will also come in handy over the holidays, for entertaining or giving as gifts.

And if you enjoyed them, these wine are also available to purchase by-the-case through this Web site.

Wine#1 Losada Godello 2022

The grapes - 100% Godello - come from old, low-yielding vines from two sustainably-managed vineyard sites in the mountains (600m absvl) near San Lorenzo and San Esteban de Valdueza. This location and the predominantly slate soils give the wine its characteristic Atlantic personality.

Pre-fermentation “cold-soak” (8 hours) - no pressed juice is followed by the alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. Then the wine is aged for five months on the lees - 70% in tank and 30% in aged, 500-litre French-oak barrels. 14.0% alc./vol..

Our tasting note: Pale straw/yellow colour, with bright golden tinges. Aromas and flavours of (white) stone fruit and pear, with light floral/herbal (anise and fennel) and mineral notes. Structured, dry, with fresh acidity and a long/complex finish.

Menu matches: A great pairing with seafood (baked and grilled), sushi, ceviche, oysters, tempura, freshwater fish, poultry (grilled and roasted), and Asian-style dishes.

Wine#2 Losada 2019

The grapes are from 40-80 year old vines from a selection of independently-owned plots, found close to the winery, at 480-600m amsl. – an altitude suitable for optimum ripening of grapes.

Made from 100% Mencia grapes. Alcoholic fermentation - using indigenous yeast - is in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with regular pumpovers, while malolactic fermentation occurs in barrel. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels; second- and third-passage – Vosges and Allier – of different sizes (228litre, 300litre, and 500litre.) Fining with natural mineral- and vegetable-based agents (so vegan-friendly). 14.5% alc./vol.

Tasting note: Deep/bright, ruby/cherry colour. Aromas and flavours of dark, red fruits - plum, blackberry, and cherry - with floral/herbal notes of vanilla spice, cocoa, and anise. Full, with fine/round tannins, balanced acidity, and an elegant/silky finish.

Menu matches: Grilled and roasted meat dishes (lamb), rice dishes, and earthier vegetarian options.
