Folias de Baco
UIVO Renegado 2023
Case of 6 bottles.
Mysterious - with great, gastronomic versatility.
This is a field blend (meaning many different varieties are harvested together) of more than 25 different native grape varieties - 50-50 white and red - from vines that are 80+ years of age, on a 2Ha site in the sub-region of Cima-Corgo in the upper Douro Valley in Portugal. The grapes are hand-picked in early September, and whole clusters are lightly crushed by foot, and fermented using natural yeast in large (1000L) granite lagars. Aged in cement tanks, and a small portion (~5%) in used chestnut barrels. Bottled after about 6 months aging - not fined or filtered. Alc./vol. 11.6%
Our Tasting Note: Bright cherry red colour. Intense aromas and flavours of tart red berries (raspberry and cranberry), with slight earthy/herbal notes. Light and refreshing, smooth, with bright acidity and clean finish that invites you to drink more.
Pairing Suggestions: Great on its own, but will pair nicely with grilled meats, richer-style seafood, soft and fresh cheese, and grilled vegetables. A really versatile red wine.
