Tajinaste Six

Case of 6 bottles.

From indigenous grape varieties grown in the high-altitude, volcanic soils of the Farráis family vineyards in Tenerife, Canary Islands - plus one from the island of Gomera - these wines offer food-friendly versatility and outstanding quality.  And did we mention the vines were planted a few hundred meters up the side of Tenerife's famous volcano - Mount Teide.

Our feature six-pack contains one bottle of each wine - three white wines and three red wines - some available for the very first time in Canada.  Wines that reflect the volcanic soils of the vineyard, the proximity to the Atlantic ocean breezes, and the intensity of grapes grown on old vines, some over a century old.

These wines are also available to purchase by the case elsewhere on this site.

Wine #1 - 2019 Blanco Seco DOP "Islas Canarias"

Made from 90% Listán blanco (pronounced lee-STAN blahn-ko), hand-harvested from hillside vineyards at a height of 250-500 metres above sea level, and 10% Albillo criollo (pronounced al-bee-yo cree-oh-yo). Approximately 20% of the wine completes fermentation and aging for 2-3 months in previously-used oak barrels,  while the rest of the wine remains in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. Light fining with bentonite, and not filtered.

Our Tasting Note: Bright, pale straw yellow colour. Intense aromas reminiscent of grapefruit zest, lemon citrus and pineapple, with mineral notes.  Crisp acidity, dry, light- to medium-bodied with a long, clean finish.

Pairing ideas: Great on its own, but it would be very nice with Sushi, seafood, grilled vegetables, white meats, and creamy pasta sauces.

Wine #2 - 2019 Canarius Blanco Seco DOP "Islas Canarias"

Made from 90% Listán blanco and 10% Albillo criollo grapes, hand-picked from hillside vineyards at a height of 600 metres above sea level. All of the vines are grown using the traditional Cordón Múltiple Trenzado (multiple braided cordon) method.

Traditional white-wine vinification, with 85% in stainless steel tanks and 15% in new barrique - French and American oak. No malolactic fermentation. Approximately 20% of wine is aged in French and American oak barrique, for two months, while the rest remained in stainless steel tanks until bottling. Alc./vol. 12.5%

Our Tasting Note: Pale straw/yellow, with greenish tinges. Floral/tropical aromas and flavours of pineapple and warm apple, with mineral/earthy notes of baking spices, fennel, and wet stones. Well balanced, dry, with fresh acidity and a long, smooth finish.

Pairing: Great with grilled seafood, shellfish, rice dishes and earthier-style vegetarian dishes. But also just a great wine to enjoy on its own with a few snacks.

Wine #3 - 2018 Paisaje de Las Islas Forastera DOP "Islas Canarias"
