Single Magnum Bottle (boxed)

Very limited release.

This unique wine comes from a single 0,15Ha plot (called Pedrouzos) of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines planted in 1885 - the first Godello vineyard planted in the world.

The vines are rooted in soils that are almost pure slate (schist), at high altitudes (550m absl). About one hundred of these ancient vines still remain in this plot, some held upright on slate boulders. If you'd like to see a photo of the vines, send us a message.

The wine is naturally fermented in a two-year old, 500-litre French-oak (Allier) barrel. Ageing for six months in the same barrel, on the lees,  followed by a further 12 months in a stainless steel tank. The wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Bottled in magnums only - ~300 magnums were produced in this vintage. The general consensus at the winery is that this vintage can age in bottle for up to 20 years. 14.5% alc./vol. R.S. 1,9 gr/L.

Tasting note for the last vintage: Beautiful light yellow colour. Complex and well-balanced aromas and flavours of fresh white stone fruit together with delicate floral and citrus hints. It gains intensity when it is opened and reveals the classic minerality of slate, balanced with the fruit, with hints of barrel ageing. Full, rich, and silky: well-balanced acidity and very long elegant finish. (We'll update the note as soon as we open a magnum)

Ideally, if you can be patient and cellar your bottle, it would be interesting to visit this wine in 5-10 years.

Pairing: Rich seafood (lobster), river fish (espec. smoked), grilled white meats (chicken and pork), including those with creamy sauces, and earthy vegetarian dishes (mushrooms).
