Franciacorta Trio

Case of 3 bottles.

We have put together a special mixed case to allow you to sample the amazing organic Franciacorta sparkling wines from Elisabetta Abrami. “Franciacorta” both defines the area and the method of production, and has for centuries - since the Serenissima Republic of the 16th century - defined the wine. A sparkling wine, made in the traditional method - like champagne - using the classic grapes of champagne - chardonnay and pinot noir.

This is a mixed case of three wines (one bottle of each), and each of the wines are also available to purchase by-the-case through this Web site.

Wine# 1 Franciacorta DOCG Brut (Lombardy, Italy)

A cuvée of 80% Chardonnay grapes and 20% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-picked in August from low yielding, estate vineyards. Each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, and the cuvée is made in the spring, following harvest, with the addition of sugar and yeast for the second fermentation (to create the bubbles). It remains in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months (on the lees), then three more months post-disgorgment before release. Dosage 7 gr/litre. Alc./vol. 12.5%. 25,000 bottles produced.

Our Tasting Note:Straw-yellow/gold colour, with fine and persistent bubbles. Elegant and rich, with slightly yeasty aromas and flavours of pear, warm apple, and vanilla. Balanced acidity, fine and elegant, with a long persistent finish.

Food pairings:A great aperitif wine, and pairs well with grilled fish, shell-fish, poultry and white meat courses.

Wine# 2 Franciacorta DOCG Brut Rosé (Lombardy, Italy)

A cuvée of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay grapes, hand-picked in August from low yielding, estate vineyards. Each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, and the cuvée is made in the spring, following harvest, with the addition of sugar and yeast for the second fermentation. It remains in the bottle for a minimum of 24 months, then three more months post-disgorgment before release. Dosage 12 gr/litre. Alc./vol. 12.5%. 8000 bottles produced.

Our Tasting Note:Pale pink colour, with fine and persistent bubbles. Elegant, fruity, aromas and flavours of strawberry, cherry, wild berries, and peach. Balanced acidity, fine and elegant, with a long persistent finish.

Food pairings:A great aperitif wine - especially for the holidays - and pairs well with fresh water fish, shell-fish, and light poultry courses.

Wine# 3 Franciacorta DOCG Pas Dosé 2012 (Lombardy, Italy)

A cuvée of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-picked starting in August from low yielding, estate vineyards. The base wine is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, and the cuvée is made in the spring following harvest, with the addition of sugar and yeast for the second fermentation. It remains in the bottle for a minimum of 36 months (on the lees), then three more months post-disgorgment before release. Dosage less than 2 gr/litre (Pas Dosé means low, or no, addition of sugar). Alc./vol. 12.5%. Very small production - ~2,000 bottles produced.

Our Tasting Note:Intense lemon yellow colour with golden tinges, with fine and persistent bubbles. Elegant and rich bouquet, with complex aromas and flavours of apple, pear, and honey. Balanced acidity, fine and elegant, with a long, full, persistent finish.
