Case of 6 bottles.
We have put together a special mixed case to allow you to sample the amazing wines of Château Lestrille - the latest edition to our portfolio.
Independent family winemakers since 1901, they grow their own grapes, harvest, and make the wines that they age and market around the world. The Château is located in the northern part of the Entre-deux-Mers appellation of Bordeaux, in the small town of St. Germain du Puch. The vineyards are HVE certified (Haute Valeur Environmentale Level 3) and in organic conversion, and their wines are suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets.
Estelle Roumage, who currently runs the Château, is the 5th generation winemaker. She adheres to the philosophy that winemaking starts in the vineyard itself, adopting sustainable winegrowing practices in order to respect the balance of the soil and biodiveristy in and around the vineyards is encouraged. In the winery, each parcel is vinified with minimal intervention to respect and optimize the characteristics of the vintage and the terroir. Subtle use of oak in the ageing process allows the personality of the wines to show through.
This is a mixed case of three wines (two bottles of each), and each of the wines are also available to purchase by-the-case through this Web site.
Wine# 1 Capmartin Bordeaux Blanc 2019
A blend of 51% Sauvignon Gris, 30% Sémillon, 18% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle. The grapes are hand-harvested at full maturity, with a careful selection of only the very best bunches. After a brief period of skin contact (about 24 hours) fermentation (by plot/variety) is in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks in order to retain the freshness/purity of the fruit.
Ageing is in French-oak barrels, on the fine lees, with regular battonage. Bottled June 2020. 13.5% alc./vol., R.S. 0.9 gr/L
Our tasting note: Bright, pale lemon yellow colour. Ripe aromas and flavours of white peach, fresh citrus (pink grapefruit), warm lemon, and apricot with toasty notes of honey, vanilla, ginger spice, and dry herbs. Elegant, full, and dry with balanced acidity, and a long finish.
Menu matches: A full-flavoured aperitif wine, and will pair with meatier-style seafood dishes (even with creamier sauces), white meats (pork and poultry), seafood platters, and earthier style vegetarian dishes.
Wine# 2 Capmartin Bordeaux Supérieur 2014
Made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, hand-picked when the grapes were healthy and at peak ripeness. Fermentation (by plot/variety) is maintained between 21 and 25 degrees celsius in stainless steel tanks in order to retain the purity of the fruit, with short and frequent pump-overs to help build expressive and full-bodied wines.
Ageing is in French oak barrels (12 months) followed by 4 more months in tank before bottling in April 2016. 13.5% alc./vol.. R.S. 0.3 gr./L..
Our tasting note: Deep, ruby/purple colour. Refined aromas and flavours of ripe, dark berries (blackberry) and Bing cherry, with subtle notes of vanilla spice, chocolate, roasted nuts, and cedar. Full and round with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, inviting finish.
Menu matches: A great pairing with grilled and roasted meat dishes and earthier style vegetarian options. But also a delightful glass on its own.
Wine# 3 Le Secret 2016
Made from 100% Merlot, sourced from three specific estate plots, with primarily clay soil. In these plots there is a higher density of vines per hectare, the yields are lower, and the greatest attention is given to the vines throughout all stages of growth and development of the fruit. 2016 is considered a classic Bordeaux vintage.
The grapes are hand-harvested, with a careful selection of only the very best bunches. Fermentation (by plot) is maintained between 20 and 24 degrees celsius in stainless steel tanks in order to retain the freshness/purity of the fruit, and obtain smooth and long lasting tannins.
Ageing is in carefully selected barriques to enhance the wine with elegance and complexity. 14.5% alc./vol. . R.S. 0.6 gr/L..
Our tasting note: Deep, ruby/purple colour. Powerful aromas and flavours of ripe, dark berries (blackberry) and cherry, with notes of vanilla spice, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, cedar, and sweet tobacco. Elegant, full, and round with velvety tannins, balanced acidity, and an incredibly long, opulent finish. It's drinking nicely now, but will age for another 8-10 years.
Menu matches: A great pairing with grilled and roasted meat dishes, lamb in particular, and earthier style vegetarian options.
