The grapes for this wine come from estate vineyards in McLaren Vale, in South Australia, one of Australia’s top grape-growing regions (near the city of Adelaide), known for producing wines of intense power and flavour.
Growing conditions were almost perfect (winter rains ensured sufficient soil moisture for the summer months, a burst of heat just before flowering, and cooler temperatures near harvest to slow down ripening) which meant for healthy vines, full fruit concentration, optimal fruit ripeness, the development of good varietal characteristics, and overall balanced wines.
Geoff named this wine “Jacko’s Blend” after one of his long-serving employees - Michael “Jacko” James.
Following traditional re-wine vilification, the wine was aged for 29 months in new and used French- and American-oak hogsheads and puncheons, and further aging in bottle before being released, just over 4 years after harvest. RS 0.4 gr/L; 14.5% alc./vol..
Our Tasting Note: Deep, blood red colour, with purple hues. Aromas and flavours of ripe fruits – plum, wild raspberry, blackberry – with savoury notes of vanilla spice, black olive, anise, leather, and dark chocolate. The tannins are firm, and the palate is structured and fleshy, with nice acidity. Overall well-balanced with a long, refined finish.
Menu matches: Pair with grilled steak, roasted lamb, BBQ sausages and spicy ribs.
