Case of 6 bottles.
Made from 93% Tempranillo and 7% Graciano grapes, sourced from vineyards with rocky and clay-limestone soil at altitudes between 530m and 570m abmsl, in Rioja Alta. The Tempranillo is from three estate plots, one planted in the 1920s, with a predominantly Atlantic climate, while the Graciano is from 20-year old vines, with more Mediterranean-style influences.
The grapes receive a long 28-day temperature-controlled whole-berry maceration (after de-stemming), with regular over pumping in “smart” tanks. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks while malolactic fermentation takes place in oak casks. The wine is aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels (2nd use) for 24 months, then bottled unfiltered. The wine is aged a further 15 months in the cellar before release. Production is limited to 57,000 bottles. Alcohol: 14.5%/vol.
Our tasting note: Deep cherry red core with garnet rim The complex nose is of deep, dark, ripe fruit aromas – black cherry, plum, and raspberry – with integrated notes of menthol, licorice, clove, tobacco, and dark chocolate. The wine is balanced, full-bodied, with full smooth tannins, and a long well-polished finish.
Drinking nicely now, this wine will reward those with patience for 8+ years.
