Case of 4 bottles.
This mixed case of four rosé wines - one bottle of each - is perfect for all seasons. They are all dry, and very food friendly, and wines you will find you can pull out and serve even as the summer temperatures become a distant memory. Or maybe just to have something on hand to remind you that patio days will return...
These are from independent wineries where care is taken from vineyard to grape to bottle. The wines are also available to purchase by-the-case through this Web site.
Wine #1Agustí Torelló Mata, 2020 XV (Penedès, Spain)
This might be more of an "Orange" wine - because it's a skin-contact white wine - but we're classifying it as a Rosé for this box. Either way it's delicious.
Made from 100% Xarel-lo Vermell grapes - a rare, ancient red-skinned mutation of the white Xarel-lo grape - grown organically in estate vineyards affected by cooling Mediterranean breezes. The grapes are hand-harvested.
The grapes are macerated for 8 hours to extract the delicate coral pink colour, then the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, kept at a cool temperature of 16ºC. The wine then remains on the lees for a further 90 days prior to bottling. Only 7100 bottles produced. Alc./vol. 11% R.S. 6 gr./L.
Certified organic and vegan
Our Tasting Note: Delicate coral-pink (onion skin) colour. Aromas and flavours of stone fruits - white peach - red currant, and pineapple with notes of nuts and herbs. Dry, with balanced acidity, good structure and a medium/long clean finish.
Pairing suggestions: A perfect aperitif wine, paired with a range of appetizers/tapas. Also with fresh-water fish, white meats (pork/chicken/turkey), and lighter-style vegetarian dishes.
Wine #2 Latido di Sara, 2020 Bidaia Txakolina Rosé (Basque Country, Spain)
We have been searching for about 12 years for a rosé Txakoli, and finally we have one. Made from a 50-50 blend of Hondarribi Zuri and Hondarribi Beltza (the red Txakoli) grapes, hand-picked from Pergola-trained vines, grown on hillside slopes about 8km from the Cantabrian Sea. Viticulture is sustainable.
The grapes receive brief 2-hour maceration, then transferred to temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks to cold decant for 24-30 hours. Fermentation lasts ~10-12 days and the juice remains on the lees for about six weeks, and when fermentation is complete the wine is lightly filtered. Alc./vol.: 10.5%. RS 5.3 gr/L.
Tasting note: Bright pink colour. Aromas and flavours of fresh strawberry and cranberry, with slight herbal/floral notes. Light-bodied, dry, crisp, with a good balance between the fruit and the acidity. Slight mineral zippiness, which we just love.
Pairings: Lovely on its own, it will pair with appetizers, paella and other rice dishes, grilled seafood (look for octopus) and white meats.
Wine#3 Domaine Plaisance Penavayre, Le Rose (Fronton, France)
A dry rosé made from direct pressing only - a blend of 70% Négrette, 15% Syrah, and 15% Gamay grapes. In order to respect the typicity of the terroir and grape varieties, only the natural yeasts present on the grape skins at harvest are used - so a "natural" wine.
Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, equipped with thermal control. The vinifications are done separately for each grape variety and after maturing on fine lees (in stainless steel) the wines are blended and bottled. Alc./vol.: 13%.
Tasting note: Medium pink colour. Intense, aromas and flavours of wild strawberry and cherry with floral/spicy notes. Medium-bodied, dry, good acidity, well balanced, with a long, clean finish.
Pairings: Easy to drink and enjoy with appetizers, Charcuterie, grilled white meat dishes, roast chicken, cassoulet, fish and seafood, and even spicy vegetarian dishes.
Wine #4 Latido di Sara, 2020 Grenache Rosé (Navarra Province, Spain)
If you like darker-coloured rosés, this wine is for you. Made from 100% Garnacha (Grenache) grapes, from 30+ year old vines, grown on hillside slopes. Only a few hours skin contact to extract colour and flavour, then the juice is pressed off to begin fermentation in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. Alc./vol.: 13.5%.
Tasting note: Bright rose pink colour. Aromas and flavours of fresh red fruits - cherry, strawberry, and raspberry - with floral notes. Medium-bodied, dry, well balanced, dry, with good acidity and a long, finish.
Pairings: Great to enjoy on its own - drinks like a white wine - and will pair with charcuterie, burgers, pizza, pasta and rice dishes, grilled white meats, and seafood. This is a super-versatile pairing wine.
