This offer is a great way to get to know this family-run estate is in Abruzzo, in the heart of the historic Costa dei Trabocchi, south of Pescara. The winery began in 2000, when Tommaso decided to put to fruition the passion and knowledge he learned from the two generations of wine-growers who preceded him. Tomasso now has the opportunity to share his knowledge and passion with his three daughters who are active in all aspects of production and marketing.

They owns 15 hectares of vineyards between the hills and the sea, close to the town of San Vito Chietino. The area provides a complex combination of soils and microclimates that give rise to grapes and wines of unique identity and high quality.  The family follows closely the full production cycle from vineyards to bottle, the concept that “good wine is made in the vineyard” guides all decisions. Vinified grapes are the result of patient care and careful research, and cultivation respects methods and times of nature. In the cellar,  further care is taken to enhance the identity of each grape variety and to produce genuine wines that express what nature provides and respects the traditions of Abruzzo wines.

This pack (1 bottle of each wine) is a more economical way to experience the classic grapes of Abruzzo - Trebbiano and Montepulciano - discover a grape variety - Cococciola - that may be unfamiliar at first but we fell is soon to become one of your favourites, as experience the qualities of three unique vineyard sites. Once you've tried these wines, we are also sure that you will be adding the Costa dei Trabocchi, and a visit to Olivastri Tomasso winery, to your future travel plans.

And if you enjoyed them, these wine are also available to purchase by-the-case through this Web site.

Wine #1 Santa Clara Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC 2022

The Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC covers the whole Abruzzo region, and can include up to 15% of “other” grapes. In the hands of the many large co-operatives that dominate the region’s output, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo does not generally achieve the respect it deserves, however is not the case with “Santa Clara”.

Made from 100% Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grapes, hand-harvested from low-yield vineyards on the Marcantonio estate overlooking the Adriatic Sea. These vineyards are planted in calcareous-clay soil and ripen under the dry sun of the hills, which allows for rich mineral aromatics and complex structure to develop naturally in the grapes.

Prior to vinification, the grapes are kept chilled for 18 hours to preserve the fresh aromatics. A soft pressing follows, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks for two months.

Our tasting note: Rich aromas and flavours of white-pulp fruits - peach and apricot - with notes of dried herbs and white flowers.  Dry, light- to medium-bodied, with fresh acidity and a persistent finish.

Food matches: Pair with seafood and grilled/baked fish, egg dishes, white meats, vegetarian dishes, and fresh cheeses.  An easy wine to drink on its own.

Wine #2 L'Ariosa Cococciola DOC 2022

The L’Ariosa Estate vineyards (means “the windy estate”, referring to the constant sea breezes) lie 15 metres a.s.l., and only a short distance from the Adriatic Sea. The calcareous sandy soils were once covered by ancient seas (small marine fossils can be found in the soil), are well-draining, and contribute distinctive mineral notes. The constant gentle sea breezes mitigate the warm sea sun, allowing a full maturation and natural expression and development of the white grapes.

Made from 100% Cococciola (pronounced coe-coe-choe-la) grapes, hand-harvested from low-yield vineyards. This is an ancient grape, indigenous to the Province of Chieti, and until recently has mostly been used as a blending grape.

Like Trebbiano, the grapes are kept chilled  prior to vinification to preserve fresh aromatics. A soft pressing follows, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks for two months.

Our tasting note: Bright aromas and flavours of apple, apricot, and citrus with herbal/floral notes.  Dry, light- to medium-bodied, with bright acidity, a touch of minerality, and a persistent finish.

Food matches: Pair with appetizers, seafood salads and baked fish, sushi, white meats, fresh cheeses, and medium-style vegetarian dishes.

Wine# 3 "La Grondaia" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2018

Made from 100% Montepulciano grapes, hand-harvested in late October from the Marcantonio estate planted overlooking the Adriatic Sea. These vineyards are planted in calcareous-clay soil and ripen under the dry sun of the hills. Combined, this allows for rich mineral aromatics and complex structure to develop naturally in the grapes.

The Montepulciano grape (pronounced mon-tay-pul-chee-ano) likely got its name from a town in Tuscany, near Sienna, but it should not be confused by the wine of that area which is made from the Sangiovese grape. Montepulciano is widely planted along the Adriatic coast, but it is most well known in the region of Abruzzo.

Traditional red wine vinification - following crushing and destemming, the grapes are kept on the skins for 15-20 days to extract colour and flavour. A soft pressing follows, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks for 36 months, and rests in bottle for six more months.

Our tasting note: Deep ruby red colour with purple tinges. Complex aromas and flavours of cherry and plum with spicy notes of pepper, licorice, and dried herbs.  Dry, medium- to full-bodied, balanced tannins, good acidity, and an elegant finish.

Food matches: Pair with grilled/roast meats (beef, lamb, veal, pork), pasta with ragù, spicy/earthy vegetarian dishes, and aged cheeses.
