Description
Rosato Aprile is a new rose wine made from Nero d'Avola. Perfect as an aperitif, or match with lighter-style patio foods and seafood.
Made from estate grapes (100% Nero d'Avola) and kept on the skins for only 12 hours to draw out only the slightest colour. Fermented like a white wine, in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks.
Tasting Note
Lovely salmon pink colour. Dry, good acidty, with bright aromas and flavours of cherry and strawberry. Very clean on the palate -- light-bodied. A great food wine.
Alcohol/volume: 12%
Serving temperature: 10-12c
About the Grape
Nero d'Avola: Considered native to Sicily (means the dark (nero) grape of the town of Avola), it is definitely Sicily's best, and most-planted, red-wine grape. In the right location, it can produce excellent wines with great aromas and flavours -- think plum, cherry, and chocolate -- good tannic structue and body, and nice balacing acidity. A great food wine.
Fondo Antico
Fondo Antico srl Società Agricola is a family-run estate, in western Sicily near the historic port of Trapani, just north of Marsala. Combining modern winemaking technology with the traditions of the region, Fondo Antico produces wines of great character.
A combination of Sicily’s bountiful sunshine, gentle Mediterranean breezes, and excellent soil characteristics help to make this possible. Many of the vines, especially the Grillo, are trained in the ancient goblet configuration; however the more modern Espalier trellising system is starting to take over with newer plantations. The winery produces a range of wines from indigenous varieties Grillo, Nero d’Avola, and Muscat of Alexandria and international varietals like Syrah.
Fondo Antico owns approximately 90 hectares of vines, many replanted to take advantage of what the region offers in terms of climate and soil.
