Vineyards and Farming Practices: The family owns six hectares of vineyards in Marano and Fumane, which are farmed according to sustainable practices, in the heart of the wine- producing area denominated as Valpolicella Classico.

Winemaking Process: A blend of 50% Corvina, 40% Rondinella, and 10% Molinara grapes . The must is left for 12 days to macerate; turned over at regular intervals (20 minutes, 3 times daily). The fermentation temperature ranges from 22° to 28°C. The wine is then stored in stainless steel tanks till February when it is poured over the lees of the Amarone grapes for 15 days at a temperature of 15° C (this technique is called "Ripasso"). After this procedure the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for 24 months.

Alcohol Content: 14.0%

Ageability: If stored properly, the wine will age well for 4-6 years.

Tasting Note

Tasting Note: Deep ruby garnet colour, with aromas and flavours of rich dried fruit -- plums and dark cherries -- and notes of dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, with round tannins and balancing acidity. Nicely balanced, with a medium to long finish.

Serving Method: Serve at temperature of 18-19°C, in large bowl glasses. Uncork the bottle one hour before serving.

About the Grape

Corvina: The most important grape in the traditonal Valpolicella DOC blend. It thrives in north-east Italy (Veneto), and contributes most of the fruit flavours in the wine and, when vines are properly cropped, much of the body. It is prized for making the famous Amarone delle Valoplicella DOC.

Molinara: Part of the Valpolicella DOC blend, but rapidly losing ground to the other grapes, Corrvina and Molinara. It contributes mainly the characteristic tart qualities to the blend, but little in terms of colour and body.

Rondinella: A popular grape in the Valpolicella DOC blend due to it's prolific qualities. High-yielding, but relatively bland; it doesn't contribute much to the blend other than quantity.


Located in Valgatara in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region, brothers Aldo, Luca and Zeno Degani are a generation of growers running a small, dynamic winery in their simple cellar. All the activities at Azienda Agricola Flli Degani, from picking grapes, winemaking and bottling in the cellar, to selling the final product, are taken care of by members of the Degani family.

The family owns six hectares of vineyards in Marano and Fumane, in the heart of the wine- producing area denominated as Valpolicella Classico. The vineyards, re-planted about 25 years ago, are between 150-180 metres above sea level, with rows running north-south for maximum sun exposure. La Rosta is a special part of the vineyard holdings, which provides even riper grapes, and made in only the best vintages.

The winery produces only five wines (Valpolicella Classico, Valpolicella Ripasso Cicilio, two Amarone della Valpolicella Classico including La Rosta, and Recioto della Valpolicella Classico); approximately 40,000 bottles annually. Year over year, their adherence to the local traditions demonstrates that quality depends primarily on what nature provides. According to Gambero Rosso, one Italy’s major wine publications, “they amaze us by regularly turning out great results, vintage after vintage. Wines of high quality and lashings of personality.”
